Rose Onyango
Rose was born in Mathare slum in Nairobi and has first-hand knowledge of the challenges that many families face day to day in Kochieng and Kisumu. It was largely this and the love and kindness that she herself received through others that led her to pursue social work as a vocation. She saw it as a way to use her experiences alongside professional training to help and encourage people. Rose counsels families in the community on a daily basis, supporting them and caring for their spiritual and emotional well-being. She also has a real heart for children and enjoys running a kid’s club every Saturday.
“Social work has been with me since I was young – first I was the receiver of it, now I help others with it. It is amazing helping the people we meet in Kochieng community to recognise the potential that they carry and to look towards a better tomorrow. I really enjoy what we do; keeping families together, listening to them and encouraging them. All children should have the chance to grow in a safe place knowing they are loved. I’m excited to be part of the Every Life Team and to be working together in this ministry.”
